DIALOGUE between Catholicism and other religions and
ideologies
Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity
The Council is entrusted
with the promotion, within the Catholic Church, of an authentic ecumenical
spirit according to the conciliar decree Unitatis redintegratio and at the same
time, the Pontifical Council also aims to develop dialogue and collaboration
with the other Churches and World Communions. It is the task of the PCPCU to
name Catholic observers at various ecumenical gatherings and in its turn to
invite observers or "fraternal delegates" of other Churches or
ecclesial Communities to major events of the Catholic Church.
The PCID is the central
office of the Catholic Church for the promotion of interreligious dialogue in
accordance with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, in particular the
declaration "Nostra Aetate". It has the following responsabilities:
to promote mutual understanding, respect and collaboration between Catholics
and the followers of others religious traditions; to encourage the study of
religions; to promote the formation of persons dedicated to dialogue.
