Doesn't
artificial birth control contradict natural law?
Pope John Paul II has condemned contraceptive acts as
intrinsically evil. He uses a more personalist approach in place of a classical
natural law approach. He speaks of a special “language of love” in which the
two persons give themselves totally to each other in chaste marital
intercourse. In this personalist approach, contraceptive marital intercourse is
intrinsically evil because it overlays the language of love with a
contradictory language by not accepting the fertility of the partner.
To the extent that he does combine his personalist approach with with a
Thomistic natural law approach, the Pope seems to rely mostly on an Existential
Thomism and not much on Transcendental Thomism.
See the Archives of this message board for a previus discussion of the Language
of Love approach.
Peace.
